The Founders
We’re an everyday, typical American family who live in the hills and hollers of West Virginia, where we help on our family farm, go deer hunting, and enjoy riding ATVs around the mountains. Our everyday lives are what sparked our desire to design the products that Kelley Innovative Technology provides. We went from “Wouldn’t it be nice if this existed…” to “Why don’t we just make it ourselves?”.
Cole dislikes mowing the fields his family’s farm for hay due to the risk of running over and killing fawns that are hiding in the tall grass because it is up to the tractor driver to look for the fawns as they are mowing. It has always been a necessary risk for farmers to take to make their hay, but what if it didn’t have to be? Cole asked me (Karie) to make something that would give an advanced warning to the drivers that there was something alive in the grass up ahead. Using knowledge learned while receiving my Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering degrees at West Virginia University, I began researching, designing, ordering supplies, and building what would later become named the Fawn Finder in later 2021. Cole and I realized that this product had true potential and began gathering other ideas for future products. We then decided that we would open a business to sell these products directly to consumers.
I began the process of creating the Fawn Finder a month before the due date of our second child in early 2022, so I did a lot of the work soon after the baby arrived. My goal was to have a working product by the time the Kelley farm mowed their first hay field, but I didn’t meet the goal. I temporarily got a job doing engineering work for another company during the summer and early fall but refocused on the creation of Kelley Innovative Technology and the Fawn Finder in later fall of 2022.
Both Cole and I wished to have more control of our working life and I still wanted to put my degrees to use, which pushed us to create Kelley Innovative Technology and design products that will improve the lives of farmers, hunters, and outdoor enthusiasts. We are from the same community as our customers, so we feel that we can serve you better than anyone else.
